L'Île de Crète
About This Spot
Stepping onto Rue Mouffetard, L'Île de Crète feels like a brief escape to the sunlit corners of the Mediterranean—a relaxed neighborhood spot where the hum of Parisian life mingles with a touch of Greek warmth. The classic sidewalk seating invites diners to settle into the unhurried rhythm of the street, catching glimpses of passersby while savoring the savory comfort of familiar, yet thoughtful, flavors.
Inside, the atmosphere is quietly authentic; no rush, just the soft clink of glasses and the occasional murmur of shared stories. The menu unfolds gently, offering small voyages through fresh and vibrant ingredients that hint at sun-drenched hillsides and fragrant olive groves. Plates arrive carrying more than food—they bring moments of conviviality, whether it’s the gentle tang of tzatziki, the satisfying char of grilled meats, or the delicate sweetness of baklava enjoyed alongside a glass of Bordeaux red.
This is a place where subtle imperfections—like a hurried staff or a slightly pared-down selection—don’t overshadow the genuine pleasure of gathering around simple, honest food. L’Île de Crète invites you to linger, to discover those familiar Mediterranean tastes infused with a quietly Parisian charm, all framed by the lively pulse of one of the city’s most storied streets.

I have a big love for Greek food and this restaurant makes good food, some of the best service I’ve had in any Paris restaurant!

It definitely wasn’t bad at all, but I guess maybe a tiny bit too expensive for what it is. I ordered a selection of 7 starters, but the only choices were hummus, tzatziki, some salads and olives.

Took it à emporter late Sunday night Their assiette crétois was good especially the hummus and tarama (many people remark how this must never be compared to the tarama you find in a supermarket) and the frites as well, the wine The service could be improved upon as it was a bit curt and the staff seemed annoyed to have to introduce their plates There seemed to be many people dining there late at night on a sunday

Classic Paris sidewalk cafe seating, facing the busy pedestrian street (rue Mouffetard) in the neighbourhood where I stayed. L’Ile de Crete had a fresh produce display that looked so appealing so I stopped in for dinner on a Monday. Souvlaki Poulet was a delicious and generous dinner of Greek salad, rice, chicken kebab, pita, tzatziki and completely unnecessary frites. A couple stopped as they were walking past to admire my dinner and asked me what I was having. They quickly sat down and ordered 2 Souvlaki Poulet for themselves.

A nice Greek place at Rue Mouffetard. The tzatziki and bbq meat and chicken are amazing. I was a bit deceived with the tarama and tiropita. The baklava were nice
